In a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Leaders’ Retreat at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (July 6), PM Wong conveyed that a relationship built on mutual trust, respect, and understanding forms a strong foundation for the Indonesia-Singapore partnership.
“Singapore remains confident about Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed because our futures are deeply connected,” Wong said.
According to him, this optimism is reflected in Singapore’s continued investment commitment to Indonesia over the years.
He explained that the investments not only bring in capital but also spur business growth, downstream industrial development, digital infrastructure expansion, and job creation.
“These investments are not just capital flows. They create businesses, downstream industries, digital infrastructure, opportunities, and good jobs for the Indonesian people. And our companies continue to see many opportunities here,” PM Wong continued.
He then cited the high level of interest from Singaporean investors in the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region, which continues to grow as a digital economy hub and attract investment from various companies.
He also pointed to the Kendal Industrial Park, which has reached full capacity, as evidence of the success of Indonesia and Singapore’s collaboration. The area will be expanded by approximately 1,000 hectares to attract new investment and create more jobs.
In addition to trade and investment, Wong said the two countries are also committed to strengthening supply chain resilience to face various global challenges.
“We are also committed to strengthening the resilience of our supply chains, for both countries to better support each other as we navigate further external shocks,” he added.
He noted that Indonesia and Singapore share a shared vision to open new cooperation opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of both countries while strengthening the ASEAN region.
“Through cooperation, we can create more opportunities for our people, strengthen our resilience, and enhance the competitiveness of both countries and the ASEAN region,” he concluded.
