TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto delivered a speech in front of lecturers and even rectors for the second time in the last three days. Prabowo once again briefed the academicians at the Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (STIC) on Sunday, June 28, 2026 after previously speaking at the same event on Friday, June 26.
Approximately 2,600 lecturers, deans, and even rectors attended the convention held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). The event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology.
During his address, Prabowo stated that he had been monitoring this event for three days. “In broad strokes, I have followed that the atmosphere is positive, with an exchange of information and perspectives,” he said during his speech at the JCC on Sunday.
According to Prabowo, this forum is a reflection that all the potential of the Indonesian nation must unite. Especially in producing thoughts, innovations, and initiatives for the common good. “For our survival, for the continuity of the Indonesian nation,” he said.
The Chairman of the Gerindra Party expressed that the world is now getting smaller due to science and technology. Now, he said, events that occur thousands of kilometers from Indonesia can affect life in the homeland.
Therefore, Prabowo feels the need to frequently meet with lecturers and even rectors. “I need to meet with intelligent people,” said the former Minister of Defense.
On the previous Friday, during the opening of STIC 2026, Prabowo delivered a nearly five-hour-long presentation to the academicians. Prabowo’s briefing was delivered openly around 4 p.m. at the Jakarta Convention Center. After speaking for 30 minutes, Prabowo asked the journalists to leave the room and continued his speech privately.
The event was paused for a break around 6 p.m. After that, Prabowo resumed speaking to the forum of lecturers until past 9 p.m. While speaking, Prabowo presented the material he brought through a large screen in the event hall.
Most of the lecturers remained in the room while Prabowo spoke. “He continues to be enthusiastic, five hours non-stop, extraordinary,” said Sukartiningsih, a lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, Mulawarman University, who attended the forum from beginning to end.
According to Sukartiningsih, Prabowo talked a lot about the condition of Indonesia during the briefing. The President also discussed government programs such as free nutritious meals, village cooperatives, and export policies.
In addition, Prabowo also recounted his life story, including when he was young and after he had finished his service in the armed forces. “So his youthful days, it was shown briefly,” said Sukartiningsih.
Sukartiningsih mentioned that there was no Q&A session in the forum of lecturers with Prabowo. “Because there were many participants. But he reminded us not to forget that all of our knowledge must be contributed to the progress of the Indonesian nation and state,” said the Vice Rector of Mulawarman University.
The forum titled “National Dialogue” attended by Prabowo was part of the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention. This event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. STIC is an initiative of President Prabowo, which was first held at the Bandung Institute of Technology in August 2025.
