Indonesian envoy highlights cultural unity and diversity

KUWAIT: Lena Maryana, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Kuwait, speaking on behalf of the Ambassadors of Asian countries accredited to Kuwait, emphasized the importance of the 7th Asian Bazaar as a platform for celebrating Asia’s rich cultural diversity and strengthening people-to-people connections. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event, held at Monoprix in Assima Mall, Ambassador Lena described the Asian Bazaar as more than an exhibition, calling it a vibrant celebration of Asia’s cultural heritage and shared values. She commended the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and participating countries for their contributions to the success of the event.

Ambassador Lena Maryana noted that Asia’s vast cultural landscape—spanning East, South, Central, and West Asia—is reflected in its languages, traditions, arts, music, traditional attire and culinary heritage. The bazaar, she said, offers an opportunity for visitors to experience this diversity firsthand through cultural displays, performances, handicrafts and authentic cuisine. She highlighted the role of culture in fostering mutual understanding, stressing that cultural exchange can transcend borders and languages while promoting friendship, respect and peaceful coexistence among communities.

She praised Kuwait’s longstanding commitment to cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, noting that many Asians regard Kuwait as their second home.

She expressed hope that the event would further strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Asian countries and Kuwait, while encouraging visitors to explore the various national pavilions and discover the unique traditions, flavors, and cultural expressions represented. The opening ceremony featured a series of cultural performances from participating Asian countries, drawing enthusiastic engagement from visitors. Ambassador Lena Maryana concluded by expressing her hope that the Asian Bazaar will continue to serve as a symbol of cultural harmony, cooperation, and friendship between Asia and Kuwait for years to come.
