Indian defence technology firm MKU Limited is seeking a long-term industrial partnership with Jakarta-based Republikorp, centred on localising production of MKU night-vision devices in Indonesia.

On 15 June, MKU signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Republikorp to jointly develop electro-optics manufacturing capabilities within the Southeast Asian country. The agreement was announced at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition in Paris, held from 15 to 19 June.

According to MKU’s vice-president for international sales Karan Gupta, the partnership will initially focus on producing night-vision devices, including monocular and binocular systems for Indonesian defence requirements.

“The collaboration aims to create a foundation for broader electro-optic co-operation, leveraging MKU’s expertise across night vision, thermal imaging, and next-generation soldier situational awareness technologies,” Gupta told Janes on 18 May.

MKU said the arrangement covers technology transfer, joint manufacturing, and integration of its optronics products into Indonesia’s defence sector.

MKU’s Netro Optronics division will provide technology, product and quality architecture, technical support, and training to support localisation. Gupta said Republikorp will lead efforts to establish local manufacturing infrastructure, engage regulators, develop the workforce, and expand market access in Indonesia.

The companies will also collaborate on quality assurance, certification, and capability development to align locally produced systems with Indonesian defence requirements.

Gupta said the collaboration forms part of MKU’s Indo-Pacific partnerships strategy.

“Indonesia is one of the most important strategic markets in the Indo-Pacific region, with a strong focus on defence modernisation, indigenous capability development, and technology transfer,” Gupta said.

The extent of technology transfer will remain subject to applicable export-control regulations and agreed programme objectives, he added.
