Eleven Killed After Truck Crashes Into Pickup Carrying Wedding Guests

Indramayu, West Java. Eleven people were killed after a cargo truck collided with a pickup carrying members of a wedding party in Indonesia’s West Java province on Sunday, police said.

The crash occurred in Kiajaran Kulon village, Lohbener district, Indramayu regency. Police said the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

According to a preliminary investigation, the Daihatsu Gran Max pickup was attempting to make a U-turn through a break in the median on the Pantura coastal highway when it was struck from behind by a cargo truck traveling in the same direction.

The impact threw many of the pickup’s passengers onto the roadway.

“I was devastated to see the victims lying on the road. The vehicle in front of me suddenly stopped as it was about to turn right,” he said.

Emergency responders transported the victims to two nearby hospitals, but many succumbed to their injuries.

Police said eight fatalities were confirmed at Bhayangkara Losarang Hospital, while three others died at Mitra Plumbon Widasari Hospital, bringing the death toll to 11.

Traffic investigators remained at the scene on Sunday to examine the crash site and determine the exact cause of the accident.
