D-8 HEI closes, transaction commitments recorded over USD13 million

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The inaugural D-8 Halal Expo Indonesia closed with more than US$13.4 million in transaction commitments, underscoring Indonesia’s ambition to become a global halal trade hub, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

The July 8-12 exhibition featured 80 exhibitors from D-8 member states and other countries, including Palestine and Sri Lanka.

The event also attracted buyers from outside the D-8 grouping, including the United States, Russia and Singapore.

More than 5,000 domestic and international visitors attended the exhibition, which hosted 29 business-matching sessions linking exporters, manufacturers and prospective buyers.

The meetings resulted in memorandums of understanding and letters of intent between Indonesian companies and businesses from D-8 member countries.

The agreements are valued at about US$13.4 million, covering trade in spices and raw materials for the halal industry.

The ministry said the event strengthened Indonesia’s position as a driver of the global halal economy, a priority under its 2026-2027 D-8 chairmanship.

The exhibition is expected to strengthen regional and global halal supply chains, increase trade in halal products and raw materials, and deepen cooperation among D-8 members.

The expo also served as a platform for networking, business development, technology exchange and connections between innovators and investors.

The ministry said investment interest and cooperation agreements reached during the event would be followed up to deliver long-term economic benefits.

The expo was part of Indonesia’s 2026-2027 D-8 chairmanship program and was held on July 8-12 at the Indoor Tennis Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta.

Held under the theme “Strengthening D-8 Halal Economy Through International Collaboration,” the event aimed to expand halal supply chains and improve market access for businesses across the D-8 region.
