JAKARTA, July 16 (Xinhua) — Indonesia sees new trade opportunities arising from Saudi Arabia’s revised import tariff policy aimed at strengthening its domestic agriculture and aquaculture sectors, the Indonesian Trade Ministry said Thursday.
Indonesia’s trade attache in Riyadh, Zulvri Yenni, said the policy was expected to increase Saudi demand for cultivation technology, cold-chain systems, animal feed, seeds and other supporting services, creating new areas of cooperation between businesses from the two countries.
“The various needs arising from this policy could create new cooperation opportunities between Indonesian and Saudi Arabian businesses,” she said in a statement quoted.
The revised tariffs apply to all trading partners and are consistent with World Trade Organization rules, Yenni said.
The measures cover 51 agricultural, livestock, fisheries and food products, including live animals, meat, fish, shrimp, dairy products, eggs, fruit, flowers and processed agricultural goods. They took effect on June 26 under a decree issued by Saudi Arabia’s Finance Ministry.
Yenni said Indonesia still had room to expand exports of value-added food and fisheries products, particularly those not produced in sufficient quantities in Saudi Arabia, including shrimp crackers. ■
