It is feeling pretty busy in Bali right now. It is the peak of the travel high season, and here at The Bali Sun, we are loving the buzz about the place.

If we know one thing, though, it is that booking ahead is more important at this time of year than at any other. Especially when it comes to transportation.

It seems long gone are the days of a fly-and-flop style resort vacation in Bali. In 2026, it feels like everyone is hopping, skipping, and jumping all over the province, and we love to see it. Bali has so much to explore, from volcanic peaks to stunning secluded beaches, through to the outlying islands.

Life in Bali is still pretty relaxed; you can rock up to most places and get in, get a table or a ticket pretty quickly, but to keep everything running smoothly and to avoid disappointment at those busier times, it’s definitely better to book ahead.

This is certainly the case when it comes to fast boat tickets. During the peak of the high season, it’s not uncommon for fast boat services to sell out in advance. It is particularly important for crossings between Sanur and Nusa Penida, which is the busiest and most popular route of all.

Booking with trusted fast boat providers couldn’t be more simple. Operators like our friends at GoBoat operate more than 370 fast boat departures across Bali province and Lombok every single day. GoBoat operates the Canggu-Uluwatu sea taxi route that cuts travel time down to just 35 minutes between the in-demand vacation destinations.

The Sanur-Nusa Penida route from GoBoat is easily one of the most popular services all year round. The fast boat crossing takes just 45 minutes, with tickets starting at IDR 250,000.

GoBoat operates services from Sanur Port to both Buyuk Harbor in Nusa Penida and Sampalan, so be sure to check which drop-off point is best for you. GoBoat operates more than 70 daily departures between Sanur and Nusa Penida, which is why it’s important to book tickets online in advance.

Departures leave Sanur every 30 minutes. If you’re visiting Nusa Penida as a day trip, we highly recommend hopping on the first boat of the day, which departs from Sanur at 6.30 am. That gets you to Nusa Penida just after 7 am, ready for a jam-packed itinerary day.

The last crossing departs from Nusa Penida at 5 pm, arriving back in Sanur at 5.30 pm. Here at The Bali Sun, we always recommend spending a night or two on Nusa Penida, simply because there is so much to discover, but if you’re tight for time, getting the first and last boats of the day is a smart choice.

Booking fast boat tickets online in advance, whether with GoBoat or any other provider, helps keep travel days smooth. Sanur Port can feel especially busy during peak times, and this is partly due to the high volumes of passenger traffic, but also due to the number of people queuing to buy their tickets moments before departure.

By buying online in advance, passengers can skip the queues and have calmer, more relaxed travel days.

If you know you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Sanur Port, why not consider a departure from Padangbai Port? Fast boat services from Padangbai Port connect to Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, the Gili Islands, and Lombok.

There are always more options to consider! Plus, Padangbai is a gorgeous destination in its own right; here at The Bali Sun, we always recommend Blue Lagoon for a relaxing afternoon on the beach.

It also makes it easier to book and confirm onward travel plans, whether that be day trip itineraries, hotel pick-up, or connecting with tour guides.
