The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, participated in and delivered the congratulatory remarks at the Awarding Ceremony of the 2nd ASEAN-India Women Scientists Conclave on 10 July 2026 in Phnom Penh. Held under the theme “Building Inclusive STI Communities,” the conclave celebrated the achievements of women scientists while reaffirming ASEAN and India’s shared commitment to advancing inclusive science, technology and innovation (STI) across the region.

Funded by the ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund (AISTDF), the three-day event was hosted by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat and the Department of Science and Technology. The conclave brought together women scientists, researchers, innovators and policymakers from ASEAN Member States and India to exchange knowledge, foster collaboration and explore innovative solutions to shared regional challenges.

Speaking during the Awarding Ceremony, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn recognised the valuable contributions of women in advancing scientific research, technological innovation and sustainable development. He underscored the importance of creating inclusive STI ecosystems that empower women and promote greater participation in research, innovation and leadership, strengthening the region’s long-term resilience and competitiveness.

The 2026 conclave built on the momentum of the inaugural ASEAN-India Women Scientists Conclave, which was successfully held in Singapore in 2024. By providing a dedicated platform for dialogue, networking and collaboration, the initiative continues to deepen scientific partnerships between ASEAN and India while encouraging greater diversity and inclusion within the regional innovation landscape.

As ASEAN and India continue to expand cooperation in science, technology and innovation, the conclave reflects the enduring commitment of both partners to fostering knowledge exchange, supporting women in STEM fields and driving inclusive, sustainable development that delivers meaningful benefits across both regions.
