Garmin brings battery life improvements to high-end smartwatches with new update

Earlier this month, Garmin started a new round of software development for The Fenix 8, Fenix 8 Pro (curr. $1,199 on Amazon) and associated smartwatches. As we discussed at the time, Beta Version 23.11 introduced dozens of changes from System Software 22.38, the most recent stable update to have graced the Fenix 8 and its peers until now.

Shortly afterwards, Garmin moved its Beta Program onto Beta Version 23.12. More of an interim update, Beta Version 23.12 targeted two outstanding bugs, albeit one was said to resolve several ‘minor issues’. Now, the company has returned with a fresh stable update, which it claims has already been offered to around 20% of compatible smartwatches.

However, the new update is not the culmination of recent 23.xx development. Instead, System Software 22.39 seeks to address two issues present in Garmin’s recent System Software 22.38 rollout. On the one hand, the new update should resolve possible issues that occurred during voice calls for some Fenix 8 owners.

On the other hand, Garmin claims that the new update should fix ongoing battery drain issues. As a result, the Fenix 8 series may experience better battery life after updating to System Software 22.39, too. Please see Garmin’s forum post for more details.
