JAKARTA, July 9 (Xinhua) — Three construction workers died from suspected gas poisoning while working inside a sewer in Jakarta on Thursday.
Abdul Wahid, an official with the Jakarta fire and rescue agency, said the incident began when one worker lost consciousness inside the sewer, followed by two colleagues who also collapsed while attempting to rescue him.
The fire department deployed 12 personnel to carry out the evacuation using confined space rescue procedures, but all three workers were later declared dead.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the suspected toxic gas inside the sewer that triggered the incident. ■
