Prabowo, Modi to ink Prambanan Temple conservation cooperation


Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta on Wednesday to sign a cooperation agreement on the temple conservation.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, in a statement to reporters on Wednesday, said the visit to Prambanan Temple is part of PM Modi’s state visit to Indonesia.

“Today, Prime Minister Modi, together with President Prabowo, will depart for Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple, one of the largest Hindu temple sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site,” the minister said.

Hadi explained that the two leaders are scheduled to carry out several agendas, including the signing of a cooperation agreement for the conservation of Prambanan Temple

Before departing for Yogyakarta, PM Modi on Tuesday (July 7) carried out a series of state agendas in Jakarta.

He was received by President Prabowo in a state welcoming ceremony at the State Palace before attending a bilateral meeting, which was followed by a luncheon.

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Modi visited the parliamentary complex of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) in Senayan, where he was received by the leaders of the DPR, the MPR, the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

Later in the evening, Modi and President Prabowo attended a gathering with the Indian community in Jakarta.

Earlier, PM Modi said that Prambanan Temple symbolizes the shared cultural heritage of Indonesia and India, with the two countries agreeing to cooperate in the restoration of the temple complex.

Modi said that the temple was more than a thousand years old and symbolized their shared cultural heritage andties between Indonesia and India.

The restoration and conservation efforts will be carried out jointly by the Indonesian government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The agreement on the restoration and conservation efforts has been under discussion since President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India in 2025.
