Deputy FM boosts RI-Islamic world economic ties in Kyrgyzstan

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta promoted stronger economic cooperation between Indonesia and Islamic countries during his visit to Kyrgyzstan from July 1-3, 2026.

During the visit, Matta held a series of meetings with Kyrgyzstan’s foreign minister and deputy foreign minister, deputy minister of economy and trade, and deputy head of its National Investment Agency.

“As with working visits to other friendly countries in the region, one of the deputy foreign minister’s main priorities is to optimize economic relations with countries across the Islamic world,” Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry stated in a written statement here on Friday.

During meetings with Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev and Deputy Foreign Minister Meder Abakirov, both sides discussed efforts to revitalize bilateral political relations by intensifying bilateral mechanisms.

The mechanisms include bilateral consultations and the Joint Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation, the ministry said.

To promote stronger economic ties, Matta also met with Kyrgyz Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Sultan Akhmatov and Deputy Head of the National Investment Agency Koychumanov Nurbekovich.

At each meeting, the Indonesian and Kyrgyz delegations agreed on the important role of governments in supporting greater interaction between people and businesses through initiatives such as business forums, visa facilitation, and collaboration in the creative industry sector.

“The deputy foreign minister emphasized the importance of building a shared narrative to foster deeper mutual understanding between the people and business communities of both countries,” the ministry said.

The ministry has also stated that it is optimistic that the Indonesia-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia-EAEU FTA), which was signed in December 2025 and is currently undergoing ratification, will strengthen the bilateral economic partnership between Indonesia and Kyrgyzstan.
