Energy transition key to Golden Indonesia 2045 vision: Bappenas

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy has said that the energy transition is an important part of building Indonesia’s future toward the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

“We are blessed with abundant energy resources spread across the archipelago, such as geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind, bioenergy, gas, and critical minerals for future technologies,” he said in a statement received here on Monday.

During the launch of the Regional-Based Energy Transition Strategy Toward Golden Indonesia 2045 Book, Pambudy said the energy transition would involve a major transformation that fundamentally changes economic and employment structures.

The book, prepared by Bappenas in collaboration with the GIZ Energy Programme Indonesia & ASEAN, discusses a new approach to national energy planning by placing regional characteristics as a key factor in the success of the energy transition.

This approach is considered relevant for Indonesia as an archipelagic country with highly diverse energy systems, development levels, and resource potentials across regions.

With this approach, energy transition strategies are expected to be designed more adaptively to support inclusive development while accelerating national energy and climate targets.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Food, Natural Resources, and Environment at Bappenas Leonardo A. A. Teguh Sambodo emphasized that energy transition strategies need to be tailored to the characteristics and energy consumption levels of each region.

“In regions with very low actual energy consumption, policies on growth, incentives, infrastructure development, and ecosystem preparation to support the energy transition may differ,” he said.

The findings in the book show that the energy transition is not only about building renewable power plants but also involves economic transformation, industrial development, energy security, regional development equity, and the creation of new growth opportunities for Indonesia.

Through cross-sector collaboration, Indonesia is seen as having strong potential to build a cleaner, more resilient, equitable, and sustainable energy system towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
