What to avoid buying on Prime Day

Our team of shopping editors know the Amazon deals page like the back of our busily-typing hands. While there are some Prime Day deals that are worth your time and money, there are others that only look like they’re a great deal.

For example, if you haven’t done your homework on Apple products, you might not know which models of Apple Watches are newer and which ones are older. The Apple SE 3 is technically more affordable, but if you’re looking for more comprehensive health metrics, faster connectivity and more water resistance, you might want to invest in an Apple Ultra 3 or Apple Series 11. Plus, the Apple SE 3 doesn’t feature a built-in QWERTY keyboard, which can make sending text messages, completing forms and filling out passwords more difficult.

Check out Amazon’s dedicated section for products on sale for their lowest price in 365 days. You’ll be able to see pricing history and verify if you’re getting a good deal, or if brands are changing the price to make it appear as a good deal.

Another tip? Make sure you’re buying products that ship directly from Amazon and not third-party brands. You can see who the item is shipped from under the Add To Cart and Buy Now buttons. While it’s not always the case, your chances of buying products fake discounts or counterfeit goods increase when you’re not buying products shipped from Amazon directly. Plus, returning products can be more complicated, and nobody has time for that!
